OUR HISTORY:

The Dargaville Arts Association Inc. is a non-profit organisation and was formed some four years ago by a group of like-minded artists in our community. The Association incorporates visual arts and performing arts.

To this date we opened the Muddy Waters Gallery in Dargaville several years ago which is the retail outlet for our artist's work. We also instigated the Acoustic Music Night a year ago - this takes the form of a blackboard concert and is held on the first Thursday of the month at the Commercial Bed and Breakfast in Dargaville. Each of these ventures is growing and attracting more people to belong.

The gallery is run by our volunteer artist members on a roster basis - usually each person does a 3-hour shift twice a month. We have a gallery manager who displays the art works, and we have a two-monthly system of changeover of the bigger art pieces. Along with this we have our gift area comprising smaller art works, textiles, handcrafted cards etc - and these do not require changeover.*

As a member of the Association an artist is entitled to put work for sale in the gallery. If you do volunteer duties 25% of your sales go to the gallery towards rent and expenses. If you do not have volunteer input - 45% goes to the gallery for rent and expenses.

The vision of the Dargaville Arts Association is to create a sustainable environment in which our artists and performers will grow and support each other in our ventures, promote workshops for continued learning, and hold exhibitions to promote ourselves. We also have occasional garage sales and the likes to fund raise towards supporting our endevours.

As an incorporated group we are able to apply for funding in some circumstances.

We have a happy bunch of artists who have been together since inception and we are growing our membership as we go. We meet for the occasional Sunday shared lunch socially, coffee mornings from time to time, and we operate via emails and meetings when necessary.

All  members are able to have a say in our decision making via a programme called Loomio which we are using on the internet. If you don't have a computer we are able to make it possible for you to have your input by arrangement. This creates a system in which everyone can have a say in working matters.

The fee is $20 annually, $35 for a family and our AGM is in October each year.
