The Dargaville Arts Association Inc. is a non-profit organisation and was formed in 2010 by a group of like-minded artists in our community. The Association incorporates visual arts as well as performing arts.
To date we have opened the Muddy Waters Gallery in Dargaville which is the exhibition venue for member's work, both 2D and 3D, and a retail outlet as well. We have also instigated the Acoustic Music Night - this takes the form of a blackboard concert and is held on the first Thursday of the month at the Kaipara Community Hall, Hokianga Road, Dargaville. Each of these ventures is growing and attracting more people to participate.
The Gallery is run by our Business Manager with a voluntary duty roster of member artists several days a week. We also have a Gallery Manager who oversees the running of the Gallery and the display of art works. Exhibitions are rotated on a monthly basis. Along with this, we have our gift area comprising smaller art works, textiles, handcrafted cards etc - and these do not require changeover.
The vision of the Dargaville Arts Association is to create a sustainable environment in which our artists and performers will grow and support each other in our ventures, promote workshops for continued learning, and hold exhibitions to promote our art. We also have occasional garage sales and the like to fund raise towards supporting our endeavours. As an incorporated group we are able to apply for funding in some circumstances.
We have a happy bunch of artists who have been together since inception and we are growing our membership as we go. We meet for the occasional Sunday shared lunch socially, coffee mornings from time to time, and we operate via emails and meetings when necessary.
